Settings: Printing and Export

Graphics can be printed or saved as high-resolution bitmaps. These settings define the basic parameters.

In the Print settings section, you can specify whether the printout should show exactly what is visible in the graphics window – in most cases, this will not make optimal use of the paper format because the graphics window has a different page-to-height ratio. If this field is not selected, the printout will show more than is visible in the graphics window. However, the scale of the graphics window will remain unchanged in all cases.

You can also specify whether colours optimised for the printer should be used. This only affects the display of the axes and the background. The paper in printers is usually white – displaying the graphic with a black background, as used when installing CGRAPH for graphics, would mean that the paper would have to be printed in black. If this field is selected, CGRAPH prints on a white background instead and colours the axes, markers and labels black and the background grid grey to match. The colours of the graphics are retained in all cases.

In the Export preferences area, you can specify the size of the exported bitmap. There are four options to choose from, ranging from a screenshot (1:1 representation) to a high-resolution 600 dpi graphic (1:64 representation). You can also select the graphic format. The following formats are available:

  1. BMP-Windows bitmap format: lossless and uncompressed, but requires a lot of storage space
  2. JPEG format: lossy and compressed, requires very little storage space
  3. PNG format: lossless and compressed, requires medium storage space
